In this lesson, we explore the physiology and teaching implications related to pelvic tilt and the six movements of the hip joint.

Objective

Be proficient in using accurate terminology related to hip movements and how to apply knowledge of pelvic tilt and hip movements to inform teaching.

Description

Describe anterior and posterior tilt. Discuss pelvic tilt as it relates to forward bending. Name the six directions of movement at the hip joint. Give a pose example for each. Highlight the need for strengthening as well as stretching hip muscles. Provide teaching considerations related to hip alignment in the three planes of movement.
