Lesson Overview

In this lesson, we consider specific asana and other yogic practices that may support pregnant students.

Objective

Be prepared to support pregnant students with asana and other practices that support their particular needs.

Description

Tell the purpose that standing poses can serve in a prenatal practice, and name some sample standing poses for consideration. Explain how chest openers and hip stretches help pregnant students and specify samples of each. Since many hip stretches are practiced supine, detail how these poses are modified for pregnant students. Describe how releasing tension in the psoas can bring more ease to the body and specify objectives related to the pelvic floor for pregnant students. Provide additional practices that can support pregnant students in deeply relaxing.

This is part of a greater section designed to support teachers of drop-in classes who encounter pregnant students. Please don’t miss the related lessons, particularly Cautions & Safety Suggestions.
