In this lesson, we explore so-called negative emotions, emotional suppression and triggering.
Be familiar with why and how people tend to judge and suppress so-called negative emotions, and related effects including overidentification, addiction, triggering. and “being a slave to emotions.”
Discuss these issues: confusing oneself with the emotions being felt; judging emotions; and the societal role in negative emotions. Describe how to release judgment of emotions and the significance of doing so. Distinguish acceptance from identification and acting out. Explain what we can expect when we allow energy to move. Explain how emotional suppression is something we do WITH OUR BODY. Discuss how emotional suppression is related to such traits as people-pleasing, caregiving, perfectionism and hypervigilance. Explore the connections and significance of emotions in addictions and compulsive behaviors. Define triggering, how it relates to stuck emotion and the impact on how we experience our life.
