In this lesson, we explore the sequencing priorities and cautions for students who are new to hatha yoga.
Objective
Be prepared to build and choose sequences that meet the specific needs of students who are new to hatha yoga.
Description
With beginners, “less is more.” Describe the implications for sequencing. Review the fundamentals of safe sequencing. Distinguish beginner sequences from gentle sequences. “Creative sequencing” isn’t an appropriate goal for creating beginner classes. Provide more apt considerations. Explain the concept of “scaffolding” and why this is recommended when designing a beginner series. Provide considerations for helping new students set a proper foundation for their poses. Provide considerations for new students in regard to dynamic movement vs. holding poses. Take note of how to teach one-sided poses to new students.
