In this lesson, we introduce the sonic (sound) components of voice and how to optimize your teaching voice.

Objective

Be familiar with the sonic (sound) components of voice (cadence, tone, energy and volume) and become conscious of optimizing your voice for teaching.

Description

Describe the sonic components of voice. Note things you can do before class to optimize your voice, including warming up your vocal cords. Provide a technique that may help if you’re feeling apprehensive. Describe four practices for optimizing your voice while teaching. Explain ways that newer teachers can remind themselves to occasionally pause while teaching. Provide specific examples of ways to refine your voice, including volume.
