In this lesson, we introduce the musculoskeletal system.

Objective

Be familiar with terminology and basic facts regarding the musculoskeletal system, focusing on the foundational structure and function of bones, joints and muscles (with more detail on each, and on connective tissue, in separate lessons).

Description

Define skeleton. Explain what is included in the musculoskeletal system. Discuss the inseparable continuum of its structure and the inherent interrelationships. List seven functions of the musculoskeletal system. Define the form and function of bones. Define joints and list seven types of joints. Define and describe muscles.
