In this lesson, we detail the poses and sequences for the most common versions of Surya Namskar (Sun Salutations).

Objective

Be proficient in the poses and sequencing of Classical Surya Namskar (also called Lunge Salutes), Surya Namaksar A, Surya Namaskar B, and Half Sun Salutes.

Description

Name 14 poses found in the traditional sequences of Surya Namaskar. Explain the difference between Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute) and Hasta Uttanasana (Raised Hands Pose). Note which Salutations commonly feature Hasta Uttanasana which commonly use Urdhva Hastasana. Describe the sequence of poses that makes up Classical Surya Namaskar (Lunge Salutes / Surya Namaskar C), and the aspect of the breath associated with each pose. Describe the sequence of poses that makes up Surya Namaskar A, and the aspect of the breath associated with each. Describe the sequence of poses that makes up Surya Namaskar B, and the aspect of the breath associated with each pose. Describe the sequence of poses that makes up Half Sun Salutes, and the aspect of the breath associated with each pose.
